Wylma JoAnne Kaven, 89, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.
A Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Schriver’s Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Heidi Youngquist of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating.
A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the service at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the luncheon.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary. Visitation continues one hour before the service at Schriver’s.

Wylma JoAnne Hanson was born on April 2, 1934, to Oscar and Erma (Wilson) Hanson in Sisseton, SD, where she was raised and graduated high school in 1953. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Following high school, Wylma worked at J. J. Newberry in Huron for one year after graduation. She then moved to Aberdeen, SD, and continued working for J. J. Newberry for a short time.
Wylma married DuWayne Idris Kaven on April 20, 1956, in Aberdeen, and they started their family together. To this union five kids were born: Vickie, Kim, Todd, Joey, and Lisa.
Wylma later worked at Dakota Midland Hospital for two years then went to work at Northwest Fabrics for 15 years before eventually working at Walmart in the fabric section until she retired.
Wylma was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling and going for joyrides in the side-by-side. Wylma also spent much of her time sewing, crafting, camping, playing cards and bingo, and babysitting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Wylma’s life are her children: Vickie (Mike) Salo of Aberdeen, Kim (Ron) Erickson of Aberdeen, Joey (Mary) Kaven of Aberdeen, and Lisa Kaven of Rapid City; grandchildren: Casey Salo, Megan (Josh) Waltman, Kody Kaven, Kylie (John Deurmier) Kaven, Sunni (Kesley Derrick) Kaven, and Caden Madsen; and two great-grandchildren Aurora Waltman and Stetson Deurmier.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, DuWayne Kaven; son Todd Kaven; and siblings: infant twins, Willis and Wallace, Arlene Elliott, Evelyn Mueller, Marilyn Odland, and Jim Hanson.
