Vivian Ann Wendt was born August 3, 1938, to Albert August and Emma Margeretha Ann (Ulrich) Wendt in Aberdeen, SD. This is the area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1956.
Vivian was united in marriage to Douglas Bruce Ogden on February 9, 1959, in Aberdeen. The couple made their home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a short time before returning to Aberdeen, where Vivian had an early career in insurance, working for Forseth Insurance Company. She then began her own bridal business, Viv’s Bridal Wear, where she made, sold, and rented bridal attire in addition to doing alterations. Her business was a fixture in Aberdeen for 30 years. Vivian and Douglas raised seven children and shared 47 years of marriage before he passed away on November 10, 2006. In 2009, Vivian moved to Boise, Idaho to help her daughter with her children. While living in Boise, she was able to do quite a bit of traveling to visit nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as attending numerous birthday parties and weddings, all of which meant so much to her. Vivian was also able to do many things with her daughters and grandchildren, including a trip to Disney World, a Hawaiian cruise, and gambling in Vegas. She continued to reside in Boise until the time of her death.
Vivian was a die-hard Green Bay Packers Fan (which she became while living in Milwaukee). When it wasn’t football season, you knew she would be tuning into NASCAR to cheer on Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and was even fortunate enough to attend a race in Atlanta with her son, Scott. Vivian also enjoyed watching golf and cheering for her favorite golfer, Phil Mickelson. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, doing crossword puzzles, and embroidering. Vivian also loved hosting big holiday dinners for all the kids, grandkids, and anyone else who didn’t have a place to go. She always tried to make something special for everyone.
Grateful for sharing Vivian’s life are her children: William Ogden of Aberdeen, Jerrold Ogden of Barrow, AK, Roberta (Jeff) Badger of Bismarck, ND, Scott Ogden of Aberdeen, Sheila Iverson of Boise, ID and James Ogden of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas “Bruce” Ogden; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Ogden; her parents, Albert and Emma; three brothers: Carl Wendt, Elmer Wendt and Dan Wendt; two sisters: Violet “Vi” Lovcik and Virginia “Gin” Sorenson; and her son-in-law, Brian Iverson.
