Tami Jill Zerr was born to Daryle and Shirley (Hartman) McVay in Canton, SD on November 17, 1962. She spent her early years in Canton, and moved to Beresford, SD to their family farm in 1966. Tami graduated from Beresford High School (Go Watchdogs!), attended Augustana College, and moved to Aberdeen in 1983 to finish nursing school at Presentation College.
Tami worked in Pediatrics at both Avera and Sanford for 30 years. She always discussed her favorite kids and enjoyed making connections with all of the wonderful people and families she cared for. Tami loved working with the great providers and fellow nursing staff throughout the years which created life-long friendships.
Tami’s true joy was found in being a loving, supportive example and mother to her two children. The love that her and their dad, Joe, have for each other will be an example that will be with them for a lifetime.
Tami’s family would like to thank all of the staff members that worked with her during her treatments over the last five years as she gracefully battled cancer. We are forever grateful to the great doctors, nurses, and staff that we have had the opportunity to work with. They provided us with years we did not expect to have with our wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend.
Grateful for sharing Tami’s life is her loving husband of 35 years, Joe Zerr, Aberdeen, SD; her two kids, Michael (Meagan Donovan), Brandon, SD and Haley (Kent Steffl), Sioux Falls, SD; her siblings: Kelly McVay, Beresford, SD, Darla (Dana) Wilson, Hudson, SD, Lori (Bob) Padmore, Sioux City, IA and Amy (Bryan) Kauchich, Boise, ID.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daryle and Shirley McVay.
Tami spent her entire life always thinking of and caring for others. In her passing and in lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in Tami’s name to the Avera Prairie Center Cancer Institute in Sioux Falls, SD, the Aberdeen Catholic Foundation, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen so her name and memory can continue to help others.
