Shelly was born July 12, 1967, to Henry A. and Carol M. Bowker in Fort Yates, ND, where she started grade school. She then attended schools in Aberdeen, SD, before moving to Rapid City, SD, then California and Nebraska. She has lived in Kearney, NE for the past 25 years. She and her children are members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.
While living in Aberdeen, Shelly was a member of the First Baptist Church where she committed her life to Jesus Christ at a young age. She was baptized in Richmond Lake in a special baptismal ceremony in 1979.
Shelly was born with an engaging personality that endeared her to family and friends alike. Animals, too! She never met a stray animal that she did not like or failed to bring home. She dearly loved her family, but most especially her daughter, Haley Raven, and her son, Justin Lee.
In addition to her faithful dog, Anna, and long-time friend, Steve Nelson, Shelly is survived by her children; her parents, Hank and Carol Bowker, Aberdeen, SD; sisters, Debra Bowker MD, Newcastle, CA and Staci Graves, Aberdeen, SD; and nephew, Jesse Gene Graves. Other surviving relatives include her Uncle Mike and Aunt Pam Ernst and family, Aberdeen, SD; her Uncle David and Aunt Naomi Ernst and family, St. Joseph, MO; her Aunt Sherron Aguirre and family, Long Beach, CA; her Aunt Donna Clausen and family, Eagle Butte, SD; and many wonderful cousins and extended family. She loved them all.
Shelly was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Richard and Marcella Ernst; her paternal grandparents, Henry and Gatsey Raven Bowker; and by aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of the family whose memories she always cherished.
