Severen V. West

Severen V. West, 85, of Langford, SD, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. 

His wishes were to be cremated with his ashes scattered at the family farm.  No formal services will be held.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Severen V. West was born March 6, 1935, to Olaf and Garda (Hemnes) West.  He grew up on the family farm near Langford, SD and attended rural school.  

He was a farmer, plain and simple.  Farming wasn’t just what he did for a living, it defined who he was.  His hard work and labor are done and he's now at peace.

When he wasn't farming, Severen enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and fishing.  He also loved playing cards with his friends in Langford.

Severen is survived by his former wife, Gwen (Jones) Krage of Westport, SD and their children Angela Tofflemire of Goodyear, AZ, Scott West of Westport, SD, and Darin West of Aberdeen, SD; six grandchildren:  Michaela Tofflemire, Austin Tofflemire, Tosha Valsvig, Taryn Martin, Tyler West and Dillon West; two great-grandchildren: Breyson Valsvig and Tavin Martin; one brother: Orville West of Groton, SD; three sisters:  Lillian Nielsen and Genevieve Olson, both of Roslyn, SD and Valle West of Huntington Beach, CA; and his companion, Eleanor Oelkers of Langford, SD.  Severen will be missed by his canine friend, “Buddy”, who was always by his side.

Preceding Severen in death are his parents, Olaf and Garda West; and one brother, Gerhard West.
