Roxie Ann Olson was born on August 12, 1955, in Gettysburg, SD, to Quentin and Eileen (Boke) Worth. She attended school in Gettysburg and graduated in 1973. Roxie attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD, for one year, then completed her education at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. She graduated in 1978 with a degree in Elementary Education. She subsequently taught second grade in Bristol, SD, from 1978 to 1980.

Roxie married Bradley W. Olson on August 16, 1980, at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg, SD. The couple moved to Vermillion, SD, for one year, where Roxie worked in the USD Medical School Library. In 1981, the two relocated to Yankton, SD, where Roxie continued her career at the Sacred Heart Hospital Medical Library, eventually becoming the Head Medical Librarian. She held that position until 1999. Roxie so enjoyed working with all Medical Professionals, assisting as needed, providing essential medical information, and continuing education assistance.

Roxie and Bradley moved to Aberdeen, SD, in 1999, where she served as Medical Librarian for the Avera St. Luke’s Hospital Library. Roxie retired in 2013, but continued to enjoy life by traveling, spending quality time with family and friends, reading, and most importantly, shopping for clothes and accessories. Roxie truly loved life and was loved by all who came to know her. She was an Angel sent from the Lord. She loved her entire family, but most importantly, her children and six grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Roxie’s life are her husband, Bradley Olson of Aberdeen, SD; son, Jonathan J. (Megan) Olson of Aberdeen, SD; daughter, Erin A. (Travis) Holscher of Milbank, SD; granddaughters: Ivy, Emma, Hazel, Ruth, Lucy and Ruby; sister, Marcia (Lester) Urban of Watertown, SD; and sister-in-law, Nancy (Rick) Worth of Sioux Falls, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Quentin and Eileen Worth; brother, Rick Worth; nephew, Jeffrey Worth; and father and mother-in-law, Kleng and Shirley Olson.

Roxie fought a courageous battle with cancer for 31 years. Not only did she fight physically, enduring surgery and chemotherapy, but also served as a Reach for Recovery Volunteer and participated in numerous Relay for Life events. Remember the colors pink, yellow, and teal, and continue to fight her fight for all afflicted with this terrible disease.

In honor of Roxie, memorials may be sent to Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue and the Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation, Class of 74th Endowment
