Rose Mary Jung, 76, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD.
Mass of Christian burial is 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen.
Rose’s wishes were to be cremated with burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at a later date. A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also view the service via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com.
Visitation is 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.
Rose Mary Malsam was born September 8, 1943 in Hosmer, SD, to Alfanus and Caroline (Imberi) Malsam. Rose went to school in Hosmer and graduated in 1961 from Hosmer High School. She then moved to Aberdeen and started working at Northern State College and later at the bakery department at Kessler’s for many years.
Rose married William Jung in 1969 in Aberdeen. She later started her own business called “Custom Cakes” and worked part-time at Ken’s bakery. She was known as the “Aberdeen Cake Lady”. William passed away in 2008 and Rose moved to Sioux Falls in 2012 where she lived for several years.
Rose enjoyed time with her grandchildren and baking. She also worked as a foster grandparent to many children in Aberdeen and Sioux Falls. Rose was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society Band #6.
Grateful for having shared Rose’s life are her children: Bernadette (Ron) Udell, of Aberdeen, Marlene English, of Aberdeen, Michael (Dorothy) Jung, of Fargo, ND, Glenn Jung, Wyoming, MN, Francis (Annette) Jung of Eagle Lake, MN, Jennifer (Jason) Hebner, of Sioux Falls; siblings: Ray Malsom, Al Malsam, Adam (Yvonne) Malsam, Donna (Roger) Heintzman, Vivian Malsam, Dan (Penny) Malsam, all of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Alfanus and Caroline; husband, William, Sr.; son, William, Jr.; granddaughter, Jamie Jung; son-in-law, Doug English; daughter-in-law, Deb Jung; brothers, Pete and Joe; and sister-in-law, Janet Malsam.
