Roscillia Magdelena Heintzman was born on November 8, 1924, to Frank and Margaret (Heier) Heintzman in rural Onaka, SD. The family moved to Onaka after the passing of her father in 1929. In 1932, Rose’s mother married Joe Binfet. The family settled northeast of Onaka in Edmunds County. Rose attended nearby country schools while growing up, and continued to live near Onaka.
Rose married Adam Fix on June 5, 1944. They had a double wedding with her brother Pete and his bride. Rose worked as a bookkeeper for Clem Herman for a number of years. Adam and Rose were blessed with four children Kathi, Chuck, Lynn, and Dionne. The couple moved to Aberdeen where they raised their children. Adam passed away suddenly on December 15, 1983. Rose worked for a brief time at Control Date until it closed.
Rose was a very nurturing excellent mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always made time for everyone. She was a bright, beautiful light who always had a smile, a joke, and a contagious laugh. Rose was a woman of incredible Faith, generosity, and inner strength.
Rose’s passion was baking. She was best known for her apple pies. She also loved playing bingo, crocheting, and embroidering dish towels. Her greatest love of all was spending time with her family, and everyone was always welcome in her home. She also had a special place in her heart for animals and could never imagine life without a dog by her side.
Grateful for having shared Rose’s life are her three daughters: Kathi Herman of Aberdeen, Lynn Fix of Aberdeen, and Dionne (Jim) Kokales of Aberdeen; one son Chuck (Laurie) Fix of Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters: Agnes Imberi and Tillie Mehlhoff, both of Aberdeen and Ann Vetch of Sioux Falls, SD, one sister-in-law Lucille Binfet of Pipestone, MN; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Margaret; husband Adam Fix; stepfather, Joe Binfet; five sisters: Mary Heiszler, Clemie Vetch, Josephine Zacher, Emma Waldman, and Katie Waldman; five brothers: Johnny, Pete, Roy, Leonard, and Liople Zacher; and one son-in-law Jim Herman, whom she always referred to as another son.
