Ronald “Ron” Eugene Holland was born on July 22, 1944, in Britton, South Dakota, to his beloved parents Leslie Sr. and Jeannette (Sandve) Holland. Ron grew up in Langford, SD, in a family of 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He attended Langford High School, was united in marriage with Carol Johnson, and enlisted in the Army at the age of 18, serving three years in Czechoslovakia where he guarded the Czech border during the Vietnam War and was Honorable Discharged.

Ron was united in marriage to Marge Trefz on March 5, 1971, in Webster, and they settled their lives in Aberdeen, SD. Ron had worked numerous jobs and lastly was a business owner and operator of JRJ Pawn Shop.

Ron enjoyed going to rummage sales, collecting antiques, watching sports, fishing, golfing, facetiming and riding his scooter.  Ron adored his grandchildren, loved supporting them in their activities, and shared their successes with others with great enthusiasm as he was always proud of them and their accomplishments. Ron will be remembered for his love of family and his outgoing personality that touched so many of us who knew him and the strangers he met daily.

Ron passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Sunday morning of August 19, 2023, at the place he loved most, surrounded all week at his camper with family and friends at the Brown County Fair. Ron was a doting husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Grateful for having shared Ron’s life are his wife of 52 years, Marge Holland; two daughters: Ronda Layson and Keri (Scott) Retzer; one son, Bryan (Amanda) Holland; two brothers: Junior (Deb) Holland and Ricki Holland; three sisters, Carol Frybarger, Cynthia (Larry) Fetter, and Debra Holland; six grandchildren: Michael Retzer, Zachary (Miranda) Retzer, Shelby Retzer, Hailey Holland, Kaitlyn Holland, and Derek Holland; and two great-grandchildren, Brailynn Fischer and Harper Retzer.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Shirley Fries; two brothers, David Holland and Doug Holland; brother-in-law and best friend Jack Fries; and one son Troy Holland.
