Ronald Adam “Ron” Hauck, 76, of Aberdeen, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen with Father Michael Griffin as celebrant.

Ron’s wishes were to be cremated.  Burial, with military rites conducted by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen, will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. 

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at the mortuary, followed by a liturgical wake service and rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., led by Ron’s nephew, Deacon Tom Van Norny.

Ron’s wishes for his service were that all dress casually and anyone having a hotrod or street rod, to please drive it to the service.

Ronald Adam Hauck was born June 28, 1941 in Wetonka, SD and was the youngest of 11 children born to Adam and Anna (Bullock) Hauck.  At an early age, Ron and his family moved to Aberdeen, where he attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and Aberdeen Central High School, graduating with the Class of 1959.

Following graduation, Ron worked with the family’s construction company for several years before enlisting in the United States Air Force in October of 1963.  He was trained as a jet fighter technician in Texas and was based in California.  Ron served in Transit Alert Maintenance, where he worked on many different types of Air Force inventory.  Following combat training at Hamilton Air Force Base in California, Ron spent time at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippine Islands before going to Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base in Vietnam.    In 1967, Ron returned to Grand Forks Air Force Base and worked as NCO of the Alert Aircraft at that base as well as an F-101 Voo Doo fighter technician.   It was there that the Revell-Monogram Model Company chose the F-101 to market as a 1:48 scale model aircraft.  Ron was proud to be a part of the ground crew for the F-101.  He was honorably discharged in 1967 and returned to Aberdeen. 

In 1968, Ron began working as a photo engraver at the American News.  He later worked at Steven Lust Automotive, where each day was a fun time working and playing with cars, a career he held for the next 24 years until he retired.

Ron had a love for cars, airplanes, and photography.  In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, and all car-related activities.

In August of 1999, Ron and high school sweetheart, Marcia Janisch, were married in Deadwood, SD with the Vintiques Car Club as the wedding party and many other friends in attendance.

Ron was a life member of the National Street Rod Association and over the years had put together a 1932 Ford Victoria that was salvaged from a scrap pile.  With lots of help from lots of friends, it was transformed into a dependable street rod and amassed well over 100,000 miles of crusing the Western USA and Canada.  Ron was proud of the ’32 being chosen as the South Dakota National Street Rod Association Representative’s Choice at the 1966 National Meet.  He was also a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the American Legion, both in Aberdeen.  Ron was a past-member of the VFW, the Elks Club and the Eagles Club of Aberdeen, as well as being a past-officer of the Brown County Sportsman Club.

Blessed to have shared in Ron’s life are his wife, Marcia Hauck of Aberdeen; four step-children:  Brad Wagemann, Brian (Brandi) Wagemann and Pam Evans, all of Aberdeen and Randy (Sheila) Wagemann of Sioux Falls, SD; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Sister Jean Marie Hauck, SDS of Huntsville; many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends; and his beloved dog, Max.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and three sisters.
