Ronald Fastenau Obituary

Ronald Frederick Fastenau, 75, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Monday, July 4, 2022, at Sanford Aberdeen Hospital.

Ron’s wishes were to be cremated with no formal funeral services being held at this time.

Ronald Frederick Fastenau was born November 7, 1946, in Clarinda, Iowa to Eldo B. and Viola M. (Schroeder) Fastenau.  He grew up in Corning, IA.  After graduating from Corning High School, He joined the United States Air Force.  Ron’s first duty assignment was at Minot Air Force Base In North Dakota.  While stationed in Minot, he met and married Ellen Ann Spaulding. From this union two children were born, Randall and Daniel.

Other duty assignments during Ron’s military career included Cam Rahn Bay, South Vietnam, McChord Air Force Base in Washington, Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, Taigu, South Korea, and again back to Minot, North Dakota Air Force Base.

After twenty years of active Military Service, Ron retired at Minot Air Force Base. His next career was with the Department Of Defense working for the Air National Guard Engineering Technical services Center in Minot. He continued work here for 23 years and then retired once again.  Ron was very proud of his military career and took great pride in serving his country. 

After retiring, Ron got his special four-legged friend; Kaycee a Golden Retriever. Kaycee was his constant companion and faithful friend.

Ron was a great neighbor and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He was a great cook and he enjoyed trying new recipes.  Ron loved to dig in and learn new things.  He was a self-taught computer tech.  Ron loved sports and was very competitive.

Ron loved camping with his family and treasured the memories that were made.  He was very proud of his boys and loved being a grandpa to his grandchildren; Jacob, Erik, and Megan.  Ron proudly watched and enjoyed his grandchildren’s events.  He loved attending their hockey games, musicals, and soccer games.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Ellen of 54 years, their Children Randall (Kristine) Fastenau of Aberdeen, and Daniel Fastenau, of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren: Jacob Fastenau, Erik Fastenau, and Megan Fastenau; sister, Norma (Jim) McCutchan, Creston, IA; brothers: Don (Patti) Fastenau, Afton, IA, and Jerry Fastenau, Corning IA. Ron is also survived by his nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
