Ronald Dana Cornell, 93, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.
Memorial Service is 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 17, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Bath, SD, with Pastor Loren Siefken officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial is at Bath Memorial Cemetery following the service with Military Rites by Sidney L. Smith American Legion, Post 24.

Ronald (Ron) Dana Cornell was born on April 27th, 1928 in Newark, SD to Dana F. and Dora J. (Swanson) Cornell. Ronald attended Newark Public School for three and a half years before his family moved to Bath, SD on December 22, 1937. He graduated from Bath High School in 1946 as the Salutatorian of his class. He joined the Army in June of 1951 in the US Army Signal Corps and was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in July 1953.
Ronald started work on the Milwaukee Railroad as a teenager during World War II. He worked at the Milwaukee Railroad full-time from 1947 to 1982, then worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement in April of 1990. After Ronald’s retirement from the railroad, he went to work at Heartland Casino as a manager for 22 years, then retired again. Ronald moved to Aberdeen in 2008.
Ronald was a faithful member of the Bath United Methodist Church and served as Chairman of the Board. He enjoyed sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. Ronald even met the great Ted Williams in Groton, SD at the Cozy Cafe. Ronald was able to share his love of sports by coaching baseball and basketball in Bath for many years, winning many tournaments along the way. Among many other shining moments, the highlight of his coaching career was his team being the State Legion Baseball runners up in 1964. Ronald also enjoyed country music, especially Marty Robbins. His favorite movie star was Rita Hayworth.
Grateful for having shared Ronald’s life are his nephew, Dan (Sue) Fritz of Bath; niece, Pat (Dave) Bruckner, Bath, SD (who were special to him and watched over him); nephew, Jim (Sue) Carver of Washington; nephew, Ron (Alana) Carver of Washington; nephew, Dean Cornell of North Dakota; nephew, Jon Cornell of Washington; nieces: Gail (Jim) English of Idaho, Kathy Tompkins of North Dakota, Becky (Gene) Wahl of Minnesota, and Janine Lux of North Dakota.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Dale, Lyle, and Neal; sisters, Helen Carver and Donna Fritz; nephews: Bill, Mike, and Daryl, and great nephew, Joshua Fritz.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the Bath United Methodist Church.
