Ronald Lee Brandly was born June 30, 1928, in Rochester, MN, to Donald and Arlene (Bigelow) Brandly. He grew up in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School in 1946. After graduation, he attended Dunwoody Industrial Institute. In May of 1948 he came to Aberdeen and worked for U.L. Freed, Architect, as a draftsman. On July 3, 1948, Ron married Doris Brown of Rochester. In September of 1950, he went into the service with the 196th Regimental Combat Team. Ron was stationed at Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, CO and Fort Richardson, Anchorage, AK. He received an honorable discharge in May of 1952. Ron and his family then returned to Aberdeen. He was employed by Herges, Kirchgasler, Geisler and Associates until his retirement in 1993. Ron was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and at one time was a Sunday School Superintendent, served on the Board of Trustees, and the Official Board. He was a member of the Lions Club, Elks Lodge, and he served on Housing and Zoning Board of Adjustment, and the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army for many years.

Ron loved spending summers at his Pickerel Lake home with family and friends and wintering in Las Vegas. He loved golfing and walking the course until the age of 90. He spent 18 years with Jean Woods of Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada. Ron and Jean were married December, 2014. They enjoyed traveling the United States and spending time in Canada.

His positive attitude and loving outlook on life was an inspiration to all.

He so enjoyed being a part of the Primrose family and precious times spent on the front porch with friends. He will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife, Jean Woods of Canada; his three daughters: Rhonda (Clyde) Hansen of Peoria, AZ, Linda (Stan) Kolb of Aberdeen, and Jane (Jerry) Jangula of Aberdeen; sister, Barbara Oleson of Fitchburg, WI; six grandsons: Justin (Jacque) Hansen, Jarin (Kristi) Hansen, Cason (Julie) Kolb, Michael (Melissa) Kolb, Joshua (Amber Nixon) Jangula, and Joey Jangula; nine great grandchildren: Vivienne, Caden, Alayna, Paisley, and Charlee Hansen, Carissa, Dominic, and Dylan Kolb, and Nixon Jangula.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doris; and one brother-in-law, Lance Oleson.

Ron’s family is grateful to Avera@Home, Pastor Mike of Aberdeen First United Methodist Church, and the entire staff at Primrose Place.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to two of Ron’s favorite charities: The Salvation Army and Aberdeen First United Methodist Church.
