Robert "Bobby" Johnson

Robert “Bobby” David Johnson, 55, of Spearfish, SD, 55, of Spearfish, SD, passed away on April 2, 2023, at his home.

 A Memorial Service will be 1 pm, Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Schriver’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Waldrop officiating.

Robert David Johnson was born November 28, 1967, to Robert and Margaret (Elving) Johnson in Aberdeen, SD.  He was raised in the Conde-Turton Area.  He graduated from Doland High School.  Bobby then went on to study automotive at Granite Falls Vo-tech. He continued to work in the automotive industry most of his life, painting custom trucks, refinishing old semis, and selling auto parts.  Bobby’s true passion in life was his musical career which began at age fifteen playing in a band with his science teacher, Woody.  His career led him to play music all over the country, including a circuit from New Mexico to Michigan.

Bobby was a well-known musician in the Aberdeen area.  He played alongside his brother, Mike, and enjoyed hosting/singing Karaoke.  He retired from playing music four years ago due to health complications after having heart bypass surgery in May 2019.  In his spare time, Bobby enjoyed casting a line at the lake, playing darts, and telling stories of his life.  His greatest pride was being a father and grandpa to his nine children and seven grandchildren, whether they were biologically his or not.  Towards the end of his life, Bobby had reconnected with Darcie Kumpf, whom he proudly boasted as his “twin Flame” and true love.  He recently relocated to Spearfish to live alongside Darcie and her youngest child, Cody.

Grateful for having shared Bobby’s life are his nine children: Tika, Shannon, Aubrey, Matthew, Ashlyn, Lindsey, Vincent, and Zane; his mother Margaret; two brothers: Mike and Allan; one sister, Virginia; the love of his life, Darcie; her children, Dylan and Cody; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his sister, Robin; and his son Mitchell.
