Richard Fischbach Obituary

Richard F. Fischbach, 81, of Mellette, SD, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Aberdeen. Officiating is Father Michael Kapperman.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.  Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also view the service at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation will be 5-7P.M., Tuesday, January 25, 2022, with a liturgical wake at 7 P.M. at the mortuary. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church on Wednesday.

Richard Frederic Fischbach was born May 27, 1940, to Frederick and Irene (Gould) in Aberdeen, SD. He enlisted into the Army Reserves in 1958 and was recalled for the Cuban Crisis in 1961.

Richard married Victoria Ann Reinhardt on September 7, 1963, in Aberdeen, SD. To this union baby Wayne, Jill, Janice, Ken, Steve, and Valerie were born.  Farming and truck driving was his livelihood in the Mellette area for many years. His family was the most important thing to him. Richard was a hardworking, generous, and faithful man.

Richard enjoyed playing golf and traveling South for the winter with Vicki. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Richard will be remembered for being a good husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Grateful for sharing Richard’s life is his wife of 58 years Victoria of Mellette, SD, two daughters; Janice (James) Opfinger of Shakopee, MN and Valerie (Shawn) Brist of Aberdeen, SD, two sons; Kendal (Jeanne) Fischbach Dassel, MN and Steven (Karin) Fischbach of Blaine, MN, two brothers: Larry (Margaret “Peggy”) Fischbach of Warner, SD and Tom Fischbach of Warner, SD, twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jill Hoeft, son Wayne Fischbach, grandson Farankert Fischbach, two sister-in-law’s Cheryl Fischbach, and Debra Reinhardt, two brothers-in-law: John Reinhardt and Duane Reinhardt Jr.
