Randolph "Randy" Leon Fischer

Randolph “Randy” Leon Fischer, of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on Monday, May 11, 2020, one day before his 64th birthday. 

A private family memorial service will be held at the family farm on Monday, May 18, 2020, with Pastor Rodney Johnson, of New Life Fellowship, leading the service.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Randy was born May 12, 1956, to Obed and Hulda (Koenig) Fischer and grew up working on the family farm along with nine brothers and sisters. His education began in 1st grade with many long walks home from the Ordway Country School and continued through 6th grade when afterwards, he began riding the bumpy bus to Simmons Junior High School for grades 7, 8, and 9.  

Shortly after graduating from Central High School in 1974, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served three years as a Vietnam Era veteran (1974-1977) where he was assigned to a sea going tugboat at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington.

After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Navy and returning home in 1977, he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad and spent many long days working as a track crewman.  Following his time with the railroad, he owned and operated Midwest Pest Control for the next ten years, servicing many businesses and households in large portions of northeastern South Dakota. During the final part of his career, he was employed by the Aberdeen Housing Authority, where he worked as a maintenance technician and subsequently retired to dedicate his time to the care of his mother. 

Randy was an enthusiastic and devoted outdoorsman. His life's passion was spending endless hours outdoors hunting and fishing with his nephews, Brad and Jeremy, along with many of his friends and family. He was a master craftsman in the fine art of sausage-making and took great pride in passing on his knowledge to Brad, Jeremy, and numerous other family members.  He was much-loved and adored by his many nieces and nephews whom he enjoyed spending quality time with, teaching them about the pleasures of the great outdoors, and the happiness he found in hunting, fishing, and making sausage.  

His life was a living example of the simplest but most cherished attributes of kindness, compassion, and loyalty, all of which helped to forever endure him in friendship and love to his countless friends and family as a brother, uncle, and valued friend.  Those who knew him always appreciated his quick wit and an unending appreciation for a good old-fashioned walleye fish fry, usually accompanied by a cold Budweiser or two.

Grateful for sharing Randy's life are his siblings: Dorian (Susan) Fischer, Jim Fischer, Judy (Ron) Wells, Jane Fischer, Don (Maxine)Fischer, Ron (Pat) Fischer, Rick (Cyndi) Fischer, Jannetta (Todd) Litzman, and Pauline (Larry) Brunmaier; 14 nieces and nephews; along with a large number of great nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Obed and Hulda Fischer; and his great niece, Taylor Fischer.
