R. Jean Speidel, 83, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.
Funeral Service is 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary, Aberdeen, with Fr. Timothy Cone officiating.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.
Burial is at Wayside Cemetery, Frederick, SD.

R. Jean Speidel was born July 15, 1938, to Roger and Grace (Fleming) Gorman in Cogswell County, ND. At an early age Jean was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Ethel and Oscar Hatfield. After Oscar’s passing, Ethel married Butch Zinter and he adopted Jean as his own.
Jean grew up on the farm near Monango, ND. She attended and graduated from Monango High School in 1956. Following graduation, Jean briefly attended North Dakota State Normal and Industrial School in Ellendale.
Jean married Gus Speidel in 1958. They raised their family in Monango and moved to Frederick, SD in 1968. Jean worked at several jobs over the years the majority at Safeguard Industries and Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.
Upon her retirement, Jean also enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping and creating wood crafts. Jean also had a number of beloved pets during her lifetime. She was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, The Aberdeen Moose Lodge #590, and attended the Aberdeen Senior Center for many years.
Happy to have shared her life are her daughters: Joleen (Mark) Christianson of Columbia, Laurie (Mike) Danforth of Watertown, and Mona (Kevin) Kallas of Leola; grandchildren: Christian (Nicole) Christianson, Micah (Daisy) Christianson, Levi (Courtney) Christianson, Drew (Vanessa) Danforth, Eric (Katherine) Danforth, Nathan Danforth, Nickolas (Samantha) Kallas, Amanda (Andrew) Johnson, Douglas (Taylor) Kallas, and Lukas Kallas; great grandchildren: Trenten, KinLee, Ava, Ella, Elliott, Elsie, Evelyn, Pierce, and Baby Boy in February 2022: and sister, Patricia Kramer.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Taylor Christianson; great grandson, Everett Kallas; and good friend, Diane Evans.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Aberdeen Area Human Society.
