Patrick Michael Underberg was born on December 20, 1962, to Anthony Phillip and Darlene Agnes (Deboer) Underberg. After a 6-year battle with heart failure, Pat passed away December 26, 2021, at Sanford Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Pat met the love of his life, Laura Bechtold, in an elevator at Avera McKennan Hospital and shared 18+ years together. They have two beautiful children, Seth and Amelia.
Pat worked at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center for eight of the 29 years of his career as an RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) technician. In this role, he often told me: “the greatest compliment I could receive is from a patient.” He had daily compliments as people could see that he had a gift.
Pat was a lover, not a fighter. He was friends with everybody he met throughout his life; he never had one enemy. In the words of one of his favorite players, Tim Tebow, “GB2.” This stands for God bless and Go Broncos.
“Pat was an incredibly loving and passionate man that would do anything for family or friends. He was a great big brother and father figure who taught me a lot of things in life, from coaching basketball to teaching me to fish or hunt, or simply how to be a man.” (Words expressed by Casey Underberg)
“He was more than a father to me. More like a best friend that I could come to regardless of whether or not he would want to hear about it.” (Words expressed by Seth Underberg)
“We were born only 9 ½ months apart and were always as close as any set of twins. Growing up, we had the same group of friends, played on the same sports teams, and worked the same jobs. When we started driving, we refurbished matching mustangs. We enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter and mud-bogging out Broncos in the summer. How many fun memories we made in those Broncos – just trying to get stuck while off-roading! Later in life, you were “Uncle Buck” to our boys and specialized in getting them all wound up just before bedtime, then laughing on the way out the door. Your passing has left a large hole in my life and heart and I miss you so much already. Love you brother. Phil” (Words expressed by Phil Underberg
Grateful for having shared Pat’s life are his wife; son Seth Underberg of Minot, ND; daughter Amelia Underberg of Aberdeen, SD; his father; his brothers: Phil (Kim) Underberg of Aberdeen, SD and Casey (Shawndrel) of Sioux Falls, SD; his sister Toni (Chad) Underberg-Reil; his in-laws, Steven and Nancy Bechtold of Sioux Falls, SD, JoEllen and Tim Evavold of Sioux Falls, SD, and Ryan and Stacie Bechtold of Sioux Falls, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by his mother, Dar.
