On March 18, 1988, Nicole Rae was born purple with the cord wrapped around her neck struggling to breathe to DeVern and Terri Kurtz. But with her strong will, she survived. She struggled to breathe the rest of her life on her terms, her way, and her own schedule.
She went to school at Hecla. Not wanting the confines and rules of school, she got her GED.
The absolute best things in her life were her children: Ethen, Leah, and Hailey.
Her strengths were her artistic ability, cooking, singing, being a fierce friend, her smarts, and being the center of attention.
Her weakness was addiction.
On May 28, 2023, her weakness overtook her.
She is survived by her precious children, Ethen Warren Lee Grotelueschen and Leah Rae Grotelueschen of Hecla, SD; mom and stepdad Teresa “Terri” (Cliff) Elsen, of Hecla, SD; siblings: Robby Dallmann of Hecla, SD, Tammy Dallmann-DeGroat of Aberdeen, SD, Ryan (Jen Johnson) Dallmann of Aberdeen, SD, Krista (Hector) Rojas of Aberdeen, SD and Derik Kurtz of Hecla, SD; step-siblings: Karen (Tigh) Rombough of Huron, SD, Beth (Rick) Burger of Brentford, SD and Ryan (Amber) Elsen of Brookings, SD; grandmother Eileen Dallmann of Jamestown, ND; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and her support dog Morty.
