Naomi May Omland, 94, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2019, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Father David Janes officiating.

Burial will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Naomi May Bresnan was born April 26, 1925 in Sioux City, IA.  She was adopted as an infant to Bryan and Margaret Bresnan.  At a young age, Naomi’s mother passed away.  Her father later remarried Nora and together they raised Naomi in Orient, South Dakota.  Naomi attended school in Faulkton, SD and graduated from Faulkton High School.  She then furthered her education at Presentation College in Aberdeen, where she received her Registered Nursing Degree.  

Naomi was united in marriage to Everett R. Omland at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on July 13, 1946.  The couple made Aberdeen their home, where Naomi was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital until 1960.  They then moved to Ipswich, SD, where Naomi served as the Director of Nursing at the Ipswich Hospital until the time of her retirement in 1987.  Following retirement, Naomi and Everett continued living in Ipswich and spending winters in Arizona.  Together, they raised seven children and shared over 65 years of marriage before he passed away on January 25, 2012.  Naomi then moved to Aberdeen and resided at Davis Court until the time of her death.

Some of Naomi’s favorite activities included traveling, visiting casinos, crocheting, knitting, and playing cards.  She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Grateful for sharing in Naomi’s life are her children: James (Mary Ellen) Omland of Marana, AZ, Pam (Tim) Zimmerman of Apple Valley, MN, Tim (Loretta) Omland of Ipswich, SD, Nan (Jim) Heier of Aberdeen, Stacey Mulrooney of Westminster, CO;  and Jeff (Wendy) Omland of Lakeville, MN, her son-in-law, Roger Dalland of Prior Lake, MN; 13 grandchildren:  Scott (Kristi) Gloe, Marnie Omland, Chris (Carie) Omland, Eric Zimmerman, Laura Zimmerman, Devin Omland, Jordan (Megan) Omland, Kelsey (T.J.) Wieser, Ross (Erin) Heier, Erin (Ryan) Rogenes, Evan Heier, Kayla Mulrooney and Megan Mulrooney; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; her daughter, Jody Dalland; and her parents.
