Monica L. Kuebler, 92, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Sacred Heart Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Fr. Andrew Dickinson, Celebrant.
Burial is at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Aberdeen.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also view the service via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com.
Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, at the mortuary, and continues one hour before Mass at the church.
Monica’s family respectfully recommends the use of masks and social distancing at the Funeral Mass and visitation.
Monica Lorraine Gisi was born June 28, 1928, to James and Anna (Hoffert) Gisi in Aberdeen. She attended Central High School where she graduated with the Class of 1947. Monica worked for Jewett Drug after high school and had various other jobs. She eventually started working at All Dakota Sporting Goods where she worked until she retired.
Monica married Virgil Grote in 1948, and had four sons: Les, Doug, Scott, and William. Later in life, Monica married Howard Kuebler, and together raised his son, Howard Charles "Woody" Kuebler.
After retiring, Monica had various volunteer work including Meals on Wheels, Gift Shop at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Avera Guest House, and bookkeeping work for her son’s custom woodworking shop. Monica was voted First Lady of Aberdeen in 2002. She enjoyed dancing, socializing with many of her friends and relatives, cooking, playing cards, riding bicycle, and time spent with her family. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Avera St. Luke’s Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Catholic Daughters. She was past president of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, Avera St. Luke’s Auxiliary, and Band #8 Altar Society. Monica was also very active as Sacred Heart Cafeteria Chairman and with their Bazaars.
Grateful for having shared Monica’s life are her sons: Les Grote of Fredrick, CO, Doug (Sherron) Grote of Aberdeen, “Woody” (Joanne) Kuebler of Minneapolis, MN, Scott (Marion) Grote of Pinehurst, NC, and Will (Lynda) Grote of Aberdeen; sister, Dolores Grote; grandchildren: Michael, Vanessa, Tara, Mahrae, Joshua, Adrian, Jason, Missy, Marty, Bella, Crystal, Andrea and Meredith; and many great grandchildren.
Monica was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Virgil and Howard; parents, James and Anna Gisi; and her siblings: Marie, Gerald, Vicky, Bernice, and Donald.
