Michaele “Mickey” Gefre, 85, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Fr. Jeffrey Schulte officiating.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., Monday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Burial is at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Aberdeen.

Michaela Hoven was born on September 25, 1936 in Hoven, South Dakota to Reynold and Loretta (Krogman) Hoven. Mickey attended Saint Anthony’s Grade School and Hoven High School where she graduated in 1954. She was Hoven’s Snow Queen and represented the community at the 1954 contest in Aberdeen. Following high school, Mickey attended and graduated from the Aberdeen School of Commerce and began working for the Internal Revenue Service in September, 1955. She worked there until 1966. Mickey later went on to work with the General Services Administration at the Federal Building in Aberdeen until her retirement on February 1, 1993.

Mickey and Robert (Bob) Gefre were united in marriage on August 30, 1958 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. From this union they had one son, Scott Gefre, who was born on October 31, 1969.

Mickey was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and an active member of the Altar Society Band Six (Martha and Mary Circle). She was a member of the Women of the Moose and also the Zonta Service Club of Aberdeen for more than 25 years.

Grateful for having shared Mickey’s life are her son, Scott Gefre of Aberdeen; brother, Jerry (Karen Ortmeier) Hoven of Aberdeen; sister, Sharon Rupprecht of Omaha, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends Bonnie Clausen and Joanne Lyren.

Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her beloved cat Delta.
