Michael "Mike" Robert Lechner

Michael “Mike” Robert Lechner, 28, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020, at his home.

Visitation and sharing of memories, with refreshments being served, will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2020, at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen.

Michael Robert Lechner was born July 28, 1992, in Bowdle, SD to Todd and Carmen (Fenske) Lechner.  He grew up in Long Lake, SD and attended school in Leola, SD before moving with his family to Aberdeen, where he attended high school at Aberdeen Central.  Michael was currently employed as a material handler at the AGP Soybean Plant in Aberdeen.

Mike loved his daughter, Mattalynn, very much and wished he could have spent more time with her.  “Uncle Monkey” also loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.  You would often see him coloring Easter eggs, playing with them and their toys, or doing some “rough-housing” with them.  

In addition to his love of family, Mike’s other passion was fishing.  Many times, he was the only one to “hook one” – even with a bare hook!  He also enjoyed disc golfing with his bros and spending time with his pit bull, “Brutus”.  His dog often took him for walks!  Mike especially adored his little buddy, Paxton.  

Michael struggled throughout his life, but he always worked hard to make things better.  He often stated that he wanted what everyone else had.  Ultimately, he lost the will power to attain his desires.  Michael will be greatly missed by those he loved and those who loved him.  There are no answers, only the fact that he now has the peace that he so wanted.  Angels are now watching over you Michael, wrapping their wings gently around you and whispering to you that you are loved and blessed.

Michael will be greatly missed by his daughter, Mattalynn Menzia of Aberdeen; his father and step-mother, Todd and Julie Lechner of Aberdeen; his mother and step-father, Carmen and Al Durnin of Leola, SD; his brothers, Keith (Vanessa) Lechner of Long Lake, SD and Travis Durnin of Aberdeen; his sisters, Amanda Cunningham of Aberdeen and Tessa Durnin of Falcon Heights, MN; his grandparents:  Judy and Fred Bohle of Mobridge, SD, and Mary Lou Lechner, Bob and Kimra Smith and Dennis and Linda Fogel, all of Aberdeen; his nieces and nephews:  Trinity Lechner, Sophia Lechner, Layton Roberson, Ryker Van Buskirk and Allyna Spencer; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Michael is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Barry Fenske and DeWayne Lechner; his uncles, Danny Lechner and Kim Lechner; and his aunt, Dawn Fenske.
