Maxine Marie Feist was born June 20, 1941, to Peter and Helen (Schmidt) Feist in Hillsview, SD. She attended grade school in Hillsview, and three years of high school in Eureka until the family moved to Aberdeen in 1958.  She attended her last year of high school at Aberdeen Central and graduated in 1959.  Maxine then attended the School of Commerce in Aberdeen from 1959 to 1960.

Maxine received her business degree from the School of Commerce and worked for the state of South Dakota at the Department of Labor in Aberdeen from 1960 to 1973.

She married James Hauck in 1973 and they moved to Pierre, SD where they raised their two children Jennifer and Jeffrey. During the 33 years of living in Pierre, Maxine worked for the Stanley County School District as a substitute teacher and later became an Educational Assistant for Special Education.  Maxine and her husband both retired in 2006.  Following retirement, they moved back to Aberdeen to spend their remaining years with family and friends.

Maxine enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and she was always willing to help others. While living in Pierre, she especially enjoyed watching and listening to the Canadian Geese honk while flying in and out of the Capitol Lake.

Grateful to have shared Maxine’s life are her children: Jennifer A. Hauck of Roseville, MN, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Hauck of Warrensburg, MO; and her brother Jerry Feist, Aberdeen.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband James in 2009; one brother Dick Feist and one infant brother Herman.
