Martina and Jimmy both passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.

In an effort to stop the spread of COVID, Martina and Jimmy’s family respectfully requests the use of masks and social distancing at their visitation and Funeral Mass.

Martina Gisi was born September 1, 1935, to Clara (Veron) and Baldaser B. Gisi, Jr. in Hosmer, SD.  She attended school at Hosmer and graduated from Hosmer High School in 1953.  Martina then took extension courses through Northern State College in Aberdeen.

Martina taught country school until she married Jimmy Glatt on June 27, 1955.  The couple moved to Aberdeen, where she worked as a salesperson at The Gerald Shop, Three Sisters and Montgomery Ward.  She was also employed as a nanny for the Arthur Russo family for over 17 ½ years and retired on April 6, 1998.

Martina was a member of various organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary #17, Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Avera St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, The Women of the Moose #178, and The Red Hatters, all of Aberdeen.  She was active on the local, state, and international levels for the Women of the Moose, serving as Deputy Grand Regent in 1983-1984, International Academy of Friendship Board 1987-1989, Dean of the Academy of Friendship 1991-1992 and on the Grand Council from 1993-1995.

In her spare time, Martina enjoyed doing crafts, especially pheasant feather items, playing bingo and cards, dancing, and spending time in her kitchen.  Her #1 love, however, was her family.  After sharing 65 years of marriage, she and Jimmy passed away together on November 17th due to complications from COVID.

Martina is survived by her daughter, Susan (Wally) Nickoli of Tucson, AZ; her son, Milo (Ann) Glatt of Aberdeen; three grandchildren:  Ryan Nickoli, Kaylee (Bryan) Lloyd and Liz (John) Hanlon; and two great-grandchildren (with two more on the way).

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Victor and Ray Gisi; and two sisters, Berneice Welch and Gladys Rieger.

Honorary pallbearers will be all the friends who have touched Martina’s life along the way.

Memorials are preferred to:  Aberdeen Moose Family Center 590, 410 9th Avenue SW, Aberdeen, SD  57401.
