Marcia Carls

Marcia Carls, 84, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Marcia's wishes were to be cremated, and services and burial will be held in Mesa, AZ, at a later date.

Marcia Elaine Carls was born to Rud and Elna (Tillman) Carls on January 18, 1939. She was an only child and was showered with endless love and attention. Every summer was spent at their cabin at Mina Lake, making many great memories with family and friends.  She attended school in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School. 

In 1956, she married Donald Gardner, and four children were born to this union: Lori, Doug, Dave, and Jane. Marcia loved to sing, dance, play the piano, travel, and read. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and with her many life-long friendships. Through the years, she lived in South Dakota, Montana, Colorado, and Arizona (twice), though always returning to Aberdeen.

She had many different jobs over her lifetime, but her most rewarding was taking care of her mother for several years after she was diagnosed with dementia. 

In 2004, she met her Soulmate, Roger Ackerman.  They loved to travel the Midwest and made new friends everywhere they went. For the last five years, she lived at Bethesda Home and received the most compassionate and loving care. We, as a family, thank you!  

Marcia is survived by her children: Doug Gardner of Globe, AZ, Dave (Paulette) Gardner of Apache Junction, AZ, Jane Gardner Aberdeen, SD, and Jon Oosterbosch of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren: Cory (Tiffany) Gardner, Randy (Melinda) Gardner, April Tomerlin, Brandon (Tyna) Gardner, Rashel Newman, and Tyler Wimberly; many great-grandchildren; and Roger Ackerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rud and Elna; daughter, Lori Davalos; and two grandsons, Justin Gardner and Michael Davalos.
