Lee Wolf was born May 19, 1936, to Frank and Magdalena (Hummel) Wolf in Hauge, ND.   At an early age, the family moved to Aberdeen.  Lee was the eldest of 5 children:  Father Andrew Wolf, Alicia Weber, Georgiana Parker, and Lenny Wolf.

Lee graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1956 and from Northern State College with a master’s degree in Education.  During high school he played football and track & field, mostly running long-distance but was also part of some very successful relay teams.

He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Reynolds on Dec 26, 1959, and they had two children.

Lee began his teaching career in Britton, SD then moved back to Aberdeen to teach Health and Physical Education at Monroe Jr. High before joining the staff at Holgate Jr. High.  During his career, he also coached football and track & field at the junior high together with the Head Wrestling Coach at Aberdeen Central High School for over 30 years.  He also traveled around the area refereeing high school football and basketball.

Lee was honored many times for his dedication to teaching and athletics and was inducted into the Aberdeen Central Hall of Fame in 2017.

One of his biggest honors was having the Aberdeen Central Wrestling Tournament named after him and the Lee Wolf Invitational has grown to be the biggest and best tournament in the state of South Dakota.

Friends and family will remember him as an outgoing man who never missed the opportunity to say hello, a great dancer, and a devout Catholic who lived his faith daily.  His students and athletes all have their own memories.   Many have shared he taught them how to dance and how to tie a necktie.  Even though Lee never felt he did anything special, he changed lives and motivated many kids to achieve their goals.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barb; their children Rick (Kathy) Wolf of Sioux Falls SD and Nancy (Lonnie) Simon of Sioux Falls SD; three grandchildren Andrew Wolf, Nick Wolf and Monica Simon; and one great-granddaughter Isla Wolf.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and his siblings.
