Lawrence M. Walth, Sr., 87, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, November 2, 2020, at Avantara Groton nursing home in Groton, SD.
His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Tim Sersen, of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating.
Burial, with military honors, will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Aberdeen, with a luncheon and time of fellowship immediately following at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.
Visitation at the mortuary is 5-7 p.m., Friday, and one hour before the service on Saturday.

Lawrence M. Walth was born August 7, 1933, to Edwin and Rose (Schilling) Walth in Hosmer, SD. This is the area where he was raised and attended school.
Lawrence entered the United States Marines in June of 1952 and served his country until the time of his honorable discharge in January of 1956. Upon returning to the states, he became employed with the City of Aberdeen.
Lawrence was united in marriage to Kathryn Cleland on April 1, 1956, in Aberdeen. The couple made their home in Aberdeen and Lawrence continued his employment with the city until 1994, when he retired as Foreman of the Water Department. Following his retirement, Lawrence worked for Wheat Growers driving truck and delivering chemicals to farmers for several years. Lawrence and Kathryn raised four children and shared nearly 48 years of marriage before she passed away in February of 2004. He became a resident of the nursing home in Groton, SD in 2012 and continued to reside there until the time of his death.
Grateful for sharing Lawrence’s life are his children: Larry (Tonya) Walth, Jr. of Aberdeen, John Walth of Sturgis, SD and Linda Walth of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wilbert Walth of Aberdeen.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; one son, James Walth; his parents, Edwin and Rose Walth, three brothers: Allen Walth, Frank Walth and Jim Walth; and one sister, Mabel Tadlock.
