Kenneth Johnson Obituary

Kenneth Johnson, 75, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

A public visitation with family present will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the Schriver’s Memorial Chapel with military honors at 7:00 p.m.  Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Kenneth Adam Johnson was born December 28, 1946, to George and Madeline (Hauk) Johnson in Aberdeen, SD. He attended St. Mary’s as a child and graduated from Aberdeen Central High in 1963.

In 1964 Kenneth was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps. He was H.Q. Battalion first Marine Division and Ampibious Tractor Battalion. In 1968 Kenneth was honorably discharged.

Kenneth met the love of his life Marlene Pulfrey the night before he was drafted. When he got back, they started seeing each other. Kenneth and Marlene (Pulfrey) were united in marriage in August of 1968.  United in their marriage they had three wonderful children: Kenneth L., Derrick G., and Amanda B.

Kenneth worked at Coke for 25 years. He enjoyed collecting rocks in the Badlands, handcrafting jewelry, listening to music, fishing, and hunting.  Kenneth was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He watched the weather channel every day. Kenneth loved spending time and having deep talks with his family. 

Grateful for having shared Kenneth’s life are his children: Kenneth L. Johnson of Aberdeen, SD, Derrick G. Johnson of Aberdeen, SD, and Amanda B. Johnson of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren: Amanda (Ted) Truedson of Fargo, ND, Hailey (Kaine) Johnson of Aberdeen, SD, Kaitlin Johnson of Aberdeen, SD, Sebastion Johnson of Aberdeen, SD, Brady Johnson of Aberdeen, SD, Dylan Knecht of Aberdeen, SD, Olivia, Emily, and Lucas; great-grandchildren: Dempsey and Declan Truedson; many nieces, nephews, extended family, parents-in-law, and special friends: Nick and Linda Yokum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Madeline Johnson; wife, Marlene Johnson; brother Mike Johnson; sister Georgia Seiler; great-grandson Silas Johnson; and beloved dog Tuffy.
