Josephine Hopfinger was born April 30, 1923 in Hosmer, SD to Adam and Mary (Reinboldt) Hopfinger.  She attended school in rural Hosmer through 8th grade before moving with her family to Aberdeen.

While living in Aberdeen, Josephine worked for the Julius Premack family until she married Joseph Heier in 1946.  The couple farmed east of Hosmer until 1966, when they purchased the meat market in Hosmer, which became known as the award-winning Heier’s Meat Market.

Josephine’s hobbies included reading, gardening, and traveling.  She also loved her cats and dogs, visiting and caring for her children and grandchildren, and spending time with her sisters.  Josephine was an incredible cook who made the best beef noodle soup and German potato salad.  She had a beautiful smile and looked amazing in powder blue.  Josephine lived a good, long life and her family is happy that she is reunited in heaven with her husband and sisters.

Blessed to have shared in Josephine’s life are her children:  Therese (Travis) Rux, Marlene (Floyd) Bechard, David (Tilly) Heier, Barbara (Gary) Erickson, Anthony "Tony" Heier, Jeanne (Dale) Dick, Mary Jo (George) Mohr, Gerard Heier, and Frances Ulmer; 30 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Heier; parents, Adam and Mary Hopfinger; sisters:  Frances Heilman, Magdalena Harty, Philipine Harty, Margaret Heier, Leona Malsam; grandson, Anthony Mohr; and son-in-law, Gary Ulmer.
