John Williard Marlette was born January 22, 1930, in Coral Cables, Florida to John O. and Ruth (Roberts) Marlette. He was raised by his mother and his step-father, C. LeRoy Jones.  At a young age, John moved with his family to Redfield, SD, where he attended school.  Following graduation from Redfield High School, John furthered his education at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.

In 1950, John entered the Amy National Guard and served his country during the Korean War.  After receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1952, John returned to the Redfield area.

John was united in marriage to Joanne Louise Jarogoske in Redfield in 1954.  He then became employed as a service technician with National Cash Register, which allowed him to live in many various places throughout his 38-year career, before retiring in 1992.  John later moved to Mesa, AZ, where he lived for several years.  In 2008, he returned to Aberdeen, where he continued to reside until the time of his death.

In his spare time, John enjoyed woodworking, reading, hunting, and spending time outdoors.  He especially loved working summers at his part-time job at Sylvan Lake Lodge in Custer, SD.  John was an animal lover and especially loved doting over his beloved dog, “Fritz”.

Grateful for sharing in John’s life is his special friend, Joanne Deloy of Aberdeen; his sons, Tim (Michelle) Marlette of Brentford, SD and Gregory John (Atchayanee) Marlette of Olympia, WA; his daughter, Ann Elizabeth (Bruce) Albrecht of St. Paul, MN; his granddaughter, Michelle Marie Marlette of Houston, TX; and his sister, Cora Sue (Curt) Forbes of Leesburg, FL.

John was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Ruth and C. Leroy; and three step-brothers:  Charles Jones, Dr. Royce Jones and Robert Jones.
