John Gasco Obituary

John Edward Gasco fell asleep in death at home on Friday, May 12, 2023.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 21, 2pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1757 S. Lawson St., Aberdeen, SD.

John was born in Wilmington, CA to Pete and Gladys Gasco.  He was the oldest of their 2 children.

March 5, 1958 John married Frances Smith. They were childhood sweethearts, who met at a large convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  They were happily married over 64 years.  John was a true romantic at heart.  They always kissed each other good-bye and good night, followed by, “I love you so much”.  Theirs was a love to be admired and imitated.

In 1974 their family packed up and moved from LA to Ipswich, SD.  John ran a small family business, J & F Maintenance.  John was also an amazing finish carpenter, and did beautiful and meticulous work.  He was quite the handyman. He always took pride in a job well done.  He especially enjoyed doing volunteer work, sharing good news from the Bible. He loved helping people learn about our Grand Creator, Jehovah God and his self-sacrificing son, Jesus Christ.

John was a very friendly and outgoing man.  He was hardworking, loyal, good natured and kind. He was always there with a word of encouragement for any who needed it. He loved the earth and the beauty on it.  He loved fishing and camping. He was a man of Faith having confidence in the hope of a resurrection to a paradise on earth, according to the promise of Psalm 37:29.

Grateful for having shared John’s life is his daughter Terrie and her husband, William Samsel; His son John A. Gasco and his wife Rachel and their daughter Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances and his parents Pete and Gladys Gasco, his younger brother Lawrence Gasco, and his first born infant son Timothy who died at birth.
