Joanne Bell was born July 7, 1945, in Huron, SD, to Ralph and Irene (Welch) Bell. She was the youngest of three children. Joanne grew up in Doland, SD, where she attended school, graduating from Doland High School in 1963. After high school, she attended a business school in Rapid City, SD, and later took night classes from the University of Minnesota.
Joanne married the love of her life, Ronald Lyren, on May 1, 1965. Together, they were blessed with two children and the family made their home in Aberdeen. Prior to settling in Aberdeen, Ronald and Joanne lived in Huron, SD, Minneapolis, MN, Rantoul, IL and Laredo, TX.
Joanne worked for the General Services Administration (GSA) in Aberdeen, SD, for 34 years before retiring in 1996. After retiring from GSA, she worked part-time in the finance office at First United Methodist Church, now Aldersgate Church, for several years, followed by 10 years assisting students, faculty, and staff in the University College department at Northern State University.
Joanne loved gardening, flowers, and attending ball games, music, or dance recitals, especially those of her children and grandchildren. In recent years, she was her grandchildren’s number one fan whether attending in person, watching online, or seeking constant score updates via text from her children. Joanne also loved animals, especially their dogs. Ronald and Joanne had many dogs and granddogs over the years and each brought so much comfort and joy to their lives. Joanne was also very involved in the church with weekly Bible studies and the Organ Guild.
Grateful for having shared Joanne’s life are her loving husband Ronald of nearly 59 years, and their two children; Kristen (Paul) Fauth and their children, Kayleigh and Camden of Aberdeen, SD and Chandra (Lee) Marshall and their son, Grant of Burnsville, MN. She is also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews, Ronald’s siblings and their families and many wonderful friends.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Pat Bell, brother and sister-in-law Monte and Marilyn Bell and niece Sara Bell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Aldersgate Church - Organ Guild, Avera@Home Hospice Care at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital or the Aberdeen Area Humane Society.
