Helen Jean Warren was born May 14, 1928 in Sutherland, IA, to Everett and Mae (Waggoner) Warren. Her family moved to DeWitt, IA and eventually to Winnebago, MN. After high school Helen attended Commercial College in Mankato, MN. Here is where she met Bill McDermott, the piano man. Helen sang for war bonds and Bill was her accompanist. Not long after that he accompanied her to the altar. They were married for 57 years and spent their life between Aberdeen and Palm Springs, CA. Helen loved the desert and hated the snow, so it all worked out.
Helen was known for many things. She loved Bill and her family. She kept us all in check. She had a great sense of humor, could kick your butt in bridge, could cook a family dinner like no other, and she had a sharp and sometimes blunt wit. Helen was a four-star general.
Grateful for having shared Helen’s life are her children, Dennis (Pat) McDermott and Mary McDermott; grandchildren: Maria Morton, Maci McDermott, Matt (Christa) McDermott, Sophia McDermott, and Denham McDermott; and 11 great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Bill.
One life won’t be long enough, my love to convey. So just you wait and see, through all eternity, I love you today.
Thanks, Mom, Grandma, Grandma Angel, and Grandma Grandma for everything.
