Glenn W. Kiefer, 67, of Aberdeen, SD passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Mobridge Regional Hospital, Mobridge, SD.
Mass of Christian burial is 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Fr. Michael Kapperman officiating.
Burial, with military rites, is at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also view the service at www.schriversmemorial.com.
Visitation is 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.
Glenn William Kiefer was born May 22, 1954 to Joseph and Mary (Johs) Kiefer in Linton, ND. They lived in Zeeland, ND for a short time before moving to Aberdeen, SD. This is where Glenn attended public school and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School.
Glenn married Linda Brendel in Aberdeen on June 24, 1972 and made Aberdeen their home. He then entered the Army National Guard and received his honorable discharge. Early on Glenn worked as a mechanic and later started working for Harms Oil delivering fuel for several years. He then started working for the City of Aberdeen in the Sanitation Department where he was employed for over 25 years. In addition to his full-time job with the city, Glenn owned his own sharpening business, Top Quality Sharpening Service, for over 20 years. Glenn retired in 2014.
Glenn enjoyed spending the summers in Mobridge. Glenn cherished the outdoors and camping. He was avid fisherman and loved hunting with his best friend Ryder, his black lab.
Glenn was a member of the South Dakota Street Rod Association.
Grateful for having shared Glenn’s life are his wife, Linda; son, Jim Kiefer of Mitchell, SD; daughters, Genean (CJ) Koester of Volin, SD and Janelle (Nate) Lafferty of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren: Jazmine Fahlsing, Brittany Kiefer, Khari Kiefer, Jillian Kiefer, Jozlyn Schumacher, Jordyn Lafferty, and Ayden Koester; great-grandchildren: Jasper and Charlie Kirschenmann, Zain and Izzy Groth, Addy Kiefer, and Nevaeh Fahlsing-Smith; brothers: Charlie (Joyce) Kiefer of Rapid City, Harold (Alice) Kiefer of Las Vegas, NV, Steven (Cathy Tunge) Kiefer of Sioux Falls, and John (Robin) Kiefer of Fort Worth, TX; sisters, Elsie Kading of Sioux Falls and Lillian (Randy) Merry of Groton; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Kiefer and Mary Kiefer-Beck; sisters, Virginia Stevens and Lena Barkley; and brothers, Wilfred Kiefer and Rodney Kiefer.
