Evelyn D. Young was born on May 4, 1936, in Isabel, SD, to Frank and Marian (Hoegele) Young. She grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central in 1954. She then attended Northern State College. Evelyn dedicated her life as an administrative assistant for the BIA from 1956-1981 and then retired.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Milo Hagen on August 16, 1958, and they made their home in Aberdeen. They were lifetime members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Evelyn was very strong in her faith and would recite the rosary at least once a day. If the family were on vacation, Evelyn would be sure to find a church where they could go and worship together. She was a very devout Catholic and led her life with prayer.
Evie thoroughly enjoyed decorating and entertaining. She decorated beautifully for every holiday, which made Christmas and all holidays very special for her family. Family members always looked forward to Evie’s ability to transform her home from traditional to festive. Because of this, she was able to create memories for her family that they will cherish forever. She also loved gardening and floral arranging, both of which she was very talented at.
Evie is survived by her daughter, Catherine Chandler; son, Michael Hagen; grandchildren Zachary Hagen and Rachel (Grant) Patronik; and brother Richard (Tim) Young.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank and Marian; Milo Hagen; her brothers Francis, Phillip, Eugene, Anthony, John, and Leo Young; her sisters Mary Gutzwiller, Florence Brickey, and Catherine Hagan; and one infant daughter Elizabeth Hagen.
