Obituary

Douglas Ray Hoikkala, 77, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at his home.

Visitation, a time of sharing memories and refreshments will be 1-3 p.m. at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Military Honors will be at 1:00 p.m.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.  Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Douglas Hoikkala was born on December 11, 1945, to Everett and Lucille (Bocher) Hoikkala in Britton, SD. Douglas served his country with pride, having been associated with the United States Navy and coming home a Vietnam Veteran. He was also with the Army Reserves for another four years. His military service was a testament to his commitment to duty and honor.

Loving brother, father, and grandfather, Douglas left behind a son, Christian Steman and his daughter Keona; a daughter, Ashlee Wahl and her son Austin and daughter Jasmine; siblings, Kathy (Richard) Meyer and Donald Hoikkala.

He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Lucille Hoikkala; older sisters Carol Sherman and Patricia Steman.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests any memorial be sent to the American Cancer Society.
