Donna Jean Whittlinger was born on August 29, 1940, to Percy Lewis and Frieda Rose (Lutz) Whittlinger in Dupree, SD. She attended school in Dupree and Isabel, SD, where Donna met Paul L. Tichi. They were married in 1957 and later divorced in 1962.

Donna lived in Mobridge for a short time and then came to Aberdeen, where she attended Stewarts School of Cosmetology. Donna loved doing hair until she was forced to quit after she became allergic to the chemicals. She did several different jobs after that, including waitressing and working at the Aberdeen Adjustment Training Center. Donna loved working with people.

Donna met Keith Lewary, who she fell in love with and is her lifelong partner of 43 years.

She enjoyed cooking big meals and baking until she was no longer strong enough to do so, sharing it with her family and friends. Her children always said, “If we would take away her cooking and baking, that would be when she is no longer with us.”

Donna’s hobbies were fishing, playing cards, and bingo. She loved spending time with her many friends. Donna especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was loved by everyone who met her. Anytime Donna would fish, she would out-fish everyone. Donna even cleaned the fish without ever leaving a bone.

Donna was a very loving person who will be dearly missed. As a memorial to her, the family asked all the attendees to wear red, for it was her favorite color.

Grateful to have shared Donna’s life are five loving children: Michael (Renfer) Tichi, Brenda Tichi Rath, Cynthia (Robin) Tichi Sombke, Janet Tichi, and Jeffery (Jennifer) Tichi; her life partner Keith Lowary; extended family Gary, Todd, Kim, Stacy, Sheri, Shanell, and Summer; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Else (Olaus) Njos and Janice (Charles) Davidson; and one brother Jim (Mary) Young.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Percy Whittlinger, Frieda Young, and stepfather Warren Young; two sisters: Connie Tichi and Betty Heib; and one brother Lewis Whittlinger.
