Donna was born in 1930, in Timber Lake, SD to Joseph Q. and Eleanor (Weiss) Joynt. She lived her childhood in Zell, SD with eight siblings. Her family ran Joynt’s Joint, which was the finest pub and gathering place in town. Donna graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton, SD, Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD, and Ottawa University.

Donna married Robert J. “Bob” Heintzman in 1952 and they made their life and family in Aberdeen, SD, where they lived nearly all of their 59 years together.

She worked as a nurse in many settings and finished her career as a school nurse at Aberdeen Central High.

Donna was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Aberdeen, where she sang in the choir and participated in church council. Faith and prayer were a focal point in her life. She enjoyed baking for kids, grandkids, and friends, and her treats were always a part of gatherings and holidays. Donna enjoyed a busy social schedule including a good game of Bridge with friends. Donna and Bob spent many of their winters in Arizona, but always looked forward to the return home. Her presence here will be missed but her kind spirit and willingness to help others will endure.
