Donna Marie (Sauer) Dauman

May 12, 1934 ~ June 24, 2020 (age 86)


Donna Marie Dauman, 86, of Aberdeen, died Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.

Her wishes were to be cremated with no formal services being held.

Burial of her cremains will take place at a later date in Bruce, SD, at Elmwood Cemetery, near her children.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen, is handling arrangements.

Donna Marie Sauer was born May 12, 1934, in Sisseton, SD to Raymond Mathew and Leona (Negaard) Sauer.  After her parents divorced in 1936, Donna lived with her paternal grandparents until 1939, when her mother re-wed in 1940.  Donna attended grade school and high school in Sisseton, where she enjoyed chorus, church choir, skating, reading, dancing, movies, and was also involved in the Jr. Class play.   She graduated from Sisseton High School with the Class of 1952.  Donna furthered her education at Presentation College in Aberdeen and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1955.

Donna married Dale Robert Dauman on October 27, 1956, in Sisseton.  She started married life in Anchorage, Alaska as an Air Force Wife.  She and Dale moved many times in 24 years and two daughters, Julie Ann and Leslie Jean, were born in Sumpter, SC and one son, Kelly, was born in Aberdeen. Dale retired from the Air Force in 1981 and the couple made Aberdeen their permanent home.  Donna worked as an RN at Americana (Manor Care) from 1981 until 1995, a time which she dearly cherished.  Donna and Dale shared 63 years of marriage before he passed away on December 22, 2019.  She continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of her death.

Donna’s hobbies included reading, traveling, and playing Bingo.  She also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Surviving Donna are her children:  Julie (Rich) VandeWeerd of Bruce, SD, Leslie Dauman of Pace, FL and Kelly Dauman of Bruce, SD; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard B. Nelson, Jr. of Aberdeen.  

Donna is preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather, siblings:  Raymond, Rickey, Lana, and Dale; and granddaughter, Jessica VandeWeerd.
