Christine Regina Huber was born December 20, 1924, to Louis and Anna (Dosch) Huber in Napoleon, ND.  This is the area where she was raised and attended school.

Christine was united in marriage to Leopold Mastel on November 9, 1943, in Strasburg, ND.  The couple made their home on the Frank Mastel farm near Hague, ND until 1947, when they moved to Edgeley, ND.  Christine and Leopold farmed in Edgeley until 1959, when they moved to a farm near Berlin, ND.  In 1962, the couple moved to Aberdeen, where in addition to being a wife and mother, Christine also did housekeeping at various hotels and private homes.  She became a resident of Avera Mother Joseph Manor in May of this year and continued to reside there until the time of her death.

Christine was a woman of strong faith and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen for many years.

She enjoyed making homemade meals, sewing, canning, crocheting, cleaning, and gardening.  Christine never met a stranger and loved giving to anybody that came into her presence.  She always made sure nobody left her home hungry.    When entering her home, often her first words would be “Are you hungry?” or “You should have let me know you were coming, I would have made something.” Christine was quite the jokester too. She loved each and every member of her family to the fullest and was a “Mother Hen” to the end.  The last words she spoke to Don were “Be careful in the fields, whatever you do, be careful.”

Blessed to have shared in Christine’s life are her children:  Gene (Karen) Mastel of Mitchell, SD, Don Mastel and Ken Mastel, both of Aberdeen, Leroy (Donna) Mastel of Jamestown, ND, Marvin (Cindy) Mastel of Rapid City, SD and Marcella (Jason) Davis of Billings, MT; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Alvin Huber of Poy Sippy, WI; her sister, Irene Schneider of El Dorado, CA; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Huber of Milwaukee, WI and Angeline Huber of Menomonie, WI; as well as many other relatives.

Christine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, three sisters, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
