Charles "Chuck" Moffenbier Obituary

Charles “Chuck” M. Moffenbier, 86, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at his home, surrounded by family.

Chuck’s wishes were to be cremated and his memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 9, 2020, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

Chuck’s family respectfully requests casual dress and the use of masks will be optional.

Charles M. Moffenbier was born September 23, 1934, in Aberdeen, SD to Martin and Rozella (Marker) Moffenbier.  He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School.

Chuck was united in marriage to Kaylene Zens on May 1, 1957, in Aberdeen.  One month later, on June 6, 1957, he was inducted into the United States Army.  Chuck completed basic training at Fort Hood Texas with the 4th Armored Division and spent the next 18 months serving his country in Germany.  He received his Honorable Discharge with the rank of Sergeant in 1959 and returned to Aberdeen.  

Over the years, Chuck was employed at various places in Aberdeen including the Olwin Angell Store, Moffenbier’s Cleaning Service, The Holiday Inn, and most recently, Walmart, before retirement. 

Chuck was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years.  He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 17 in Aberdeen.  In his younger years, Chuck loved coaching softball teams and always made the games fun for everyone.  He also had a special place in his heart for children and enjoyed collecting pens, crayons, and notebooks and donating them to different grade schools in town. 

Blessed to have shared Chuck’s life is his wife of 63 years, Kaylene Moffenbier; his children:  Terry Moffenbier, Michael (Linda) Moffenbier, Deb Sterzinger (Charlie Mehlhaff), Mary (Scott) Weinzirl and David (Julie) Moffenbier; nine grandchildren:  Daniel, Nicholas, and Hannah Moffenbier, Ryan Moffenbier, Lindsay Rodriquez, Jessica (Travis) Anderson, Sarah (Fred) Ossanna, and Tyler and Jack Moffenbier; and his great-grandchildren.  

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
