Cassi was born February 26, 1972, to Galen “Chip” and Kathleen Munsen Swanson in Aberdeen, SD. She was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on March 26, 1972, and was a lifelong member where she taught Wednesday school, and Vacation Bible School. Cassi was very involved in her church, and she loved her church family. Her strong faith was apparent to everyone she came into contact with.
Cassi attended O.M. Tiffany grade school, Holgate Junior High, and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1990. She then went on to attend Northern State College, and Presentation College, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Cassi continued her education at Walden University graduating with her Master of Science degree in nursing.
Cassi married Ryan Plooster on March 8, 2000, and to this union a son was born, Logan Paul. She married Charles Bell on September 26, 2006, and to this union, a daughter was born, Emma Danielle.
Cassi worked at Mother Joseph Manor while attending nursing school as a Certified Nursing Assistant. After graduating she worked on the Pediatric floor at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital. Cassi also taught at Presentation College for a couple of years. She eventually returned to Mother Joseph Manor, where she remained working until her death. Cassi was a very dedicated, caring nurse. She loved the residents and fellow co-workers like family. She was employed by Avera for over 28 years.
As a young girl, Cassi twirled baton and attended several contests, taking home several awards. She also played tenor saxophone in junior high and high school and was in the marching band.
Cassi’s entire life was devoted to her family and career. She attended every football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and hockey game that her brother Greg, son Logan, daughter Emma, nephew Gabe “LeRoy”, and niece Lauren played. She was always there to support and cheer them on. Family was always first to Cassi.
Cassi enjoyed camping, puzzles, reading, and was a huge Vikings fan. She loved everything purple and loved the television series, Friends. She knew every episode by heart. Her dogs were a very big part of her life, and she considered them like family as well.
Cassi’s infectious smile could fill your heart, and her hearty laugh would fill a room. She always had a bright positive attitude, even through her extended illness.
Grateful for having shared Cassi’s life are her parents: Chip (Marian) Swanson, and Bill (Kathy) Keller; children: son, Logan and daughter, Emma; brother Greg (Casey) Swanson; nephew Gabe “LeRoy” (Lachelle) Swanson; niece Lauren (Tyler Block) Swanson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and step brothers and sisters.
Cassi was preceded in death by her grandparents; her cousin Lynsey Munsen; and two aunts, Jan Munsen and Lucy Erickson.
Cassi will truly be missed by all. Dance with the angels and keep the thunderstorms rolling. Then we will all know that is you celebrating in heaven.
The family has requested that casual attire be worn for her funeral, and if you have anything purple, please wear that.
