Obituary

Ann Mary Enger, 82, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Jeffrey Schulte officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery following Mass.

A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the burial at the church parish hall.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the mortuary.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Ann Mary Enger was born November 10, 1940, to George and Elizabeth (Hummel) Roshau in Hague, North Dakota. She was baptized on November 17, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hague. Ann moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1943 where she attended and graduated from Central High School in 1958.

Following graduation, Ann traveled around the United States and lived in multiple cities. She eventually settled in Aberdeen where she was united in marriage to Loren Enger on May 22, 1965. Together they had two children: John and Christine.

Ann started working at Avera St. Luke’s in the business office on April 19, 1979, and stayed there for 31 years until retiring on August 31, 2010. After her daughter died in 2001, she and her husband raised their two grandchildren Adam and Ashley Acker.

Ann was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as a member of the Moose Lodge for many years. She loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking, camping, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and reading. Some of her favorite shows were Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Little House of the Prairie, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and many more. Ann also enjoyed riding motorcycle with her husband and friends, making the trip to Sturgis, SD, for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally multiple times. She also was an avid collector of angels.

Ann is survived by her son, John (Sandie) Enger of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren: Adam Acker of Aberdeen, SD, Ashley (fiancé Cory Gillerstein) Acker of Moorhead, MN, Chad (Stephanie) Enger of Rapid City, SD, and Olivia Enger of Rapid City, SD; great-grandchildren Carter Enger, Colson Enger, and Anastyn Enger; sisters: Othilia Farr of Hayden, ID, Doris Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Louise Kenitzer of Aberdeen, SD; brother, Joseph Roshau of Astoria, OR; and many nieces and nephews.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and George Roshau; daughter, Christine; brother, Emil Roshau; and husband, Loren Enger.
