Alma Bernice Kungel, was born December 22, 1930, to Adam and Emelia (Blumhardt) Kungel in Kulm, North Dakota. She was raised on the family farm southwest of Kulm. Alma graduated high school from Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, ND in 1949. After graduation, she continued her education earning her Teaching Certificate from Ellendale, ND and began her teaching career in Redfield, SD.
Alma married Marvin Reinke on July 22, 1952, in Tolstoy, SD. Together they welcomed five children: Marveleen, Geraldine, Joeline, Eileen, and Bruce. They raised their family on the family farm in the hill country near Kulm, ND. In 1978 they sold the family farm and move to the Forbes, ND area where they continued farming until 2014 when Marvin passed away. Following Marvin’s passing, Alma moved closer to her daughter Geraldine in Lincoln, NE. In January 2023, Alma moved to assisted living in Aberdeen where she resided until her death.
Alma was a lifetime member of the Kulm Seventh-Day-Adventist Church where she held many different offices of distinction over the years. Alma and Marvin enjoyed their work together of buying cherries and peaches from orchards in the northwestern United States, selling to several local communities for many years. Alma enjoyed accompanying Marvin on snowmobile trips to Yellowstone, Montana, and many other vacations they had together over their 62 years of marriage. She loved her family, being a homemaker, cooking, baking, gardening, and yard work. She took pride in these things and did them all very well.
Grateful for having shared Alma’s life are her five children: Marveleen Dewald, Geraldine (Ron) Dodds, Joeline (Rick) Harmon, Eileen (Kerry) Larson, Bruce (Deanne) Reinke, eight grandchildren: Brent (Niki) Dewald, Jason Dewald, Josh Dewald, Kelly (Matt) Boyd, Rick (Victoria) Dodds, Danny Schuldheisz, Jenny Schuldheisz, Renae Reinke; Fourteen great-grandchildren: Jackson, Joeseph, Jarrett, Braxton, Brayden, Addison, Briella, Lilly, Hayden, Reese, Adeline, Ryan, Annelise, Nicholas; one great-great-grandson, Brooks; one brother Lenhardt (Darlene) Kungel; and many nieces and nephews.
