Alice Marie Lacher was born June 23, 1931, in Trail City, SD to Anton and Thresia (Schoch) Lacher.  At a young age, she moved with her family to a farmstead in Leola, SD and attended rural country school.

Alice was united in marriage to Clarence Geffre in Leola on July 21, 1953.  Their union was blessed with six children.   The family made their home in Leola, where in addition to being a wife and mother, Alice also opened her home to many young children in her little daycare.  She loved each and every one of those children as her own.  Alice also took great pride in her job as church custodian for many years and loved her time working at the Jack & Jill Grocery Store and the L&L.  Alice and Clarence shared over 51 years of marriage before he passed away on October 7, 2004.  Alice then moved to Aberdeen, where she continued to reside until the time of her death.

While living in Aberdeen, Alice enjoyed her time with her friends at The Carlyle Apartments.  She also loved seeing her family together and enjoyed the laughter shared.  Alice also liked playing cards and played many hands of Auction 66 through the years.  She always enjoyed dancing and Polka music.  Alice’s faith was very important to her and she truly enjoyed attending weekly Mass.  She will long be remembered for her warm smile and unfailing faith.

Blessed to have Alice as their mother are her children:  Bonnie (Larry) Nesby and Gail (Dale) Ferguson, both of Texas, Theresa (John) Banks of California, Marty (Pearl) Geffre of Watertown, SD, Tony (Amy) Geffre of Fargo, ND and Annette (Tracy) Leberman of Aberdeen.  Also grateful for sharing Alice’s life are her ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents, two sisters, five brothers, and her great-grandson, Evan.
