William Gilbert Dunn, 75, of rural Bath, SD, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Loren Siefken presiding.
Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
No visitation will be held prior to the service at the mortuary on Wednesday.
William Gilbert Dunn was born on January 28, 1939, in Anderson, South Carolina, to Wiley and Inez (Cox) Dunn. This is the area where he was raised and graduated from Anderson Boys High School.
Following his graduation, William entered the United States Navy and was trained as a machinist mate. He served his country from March of 1956 until the time of his Honorable Discharge in December of 1959. William then worked in a cotton mill in South Carolina and then for various contractors in the Virginia area.
William then became employed at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland and remained there until March of 1974. He then moved to South Dakota and made his home in rural Bath. William began what would become a twenty-year career with the General Services Administration in Aberdeen. He retired in January of 1994.
William enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a small refuge for the wildlife on his farm.
Surviving William are four brothers: John (Joyce) Dunn of Dickerson, MD, Ralph (Judy) Dunn of Belton, S.C., Wayne (Wendy) Dunn of North Mead, Australia, and Melvin (Sue) Dunn of Belton, S.C.; one sister, Gloria (Don) Charshee of Ponce Inlet, FL; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Mickey Gefre of Aberdeen, SD and Joe Akkerman of Bath, SD.
William's parents, one sister, Shelby Storey, and one brother, Randolph Dunn, preceded him in death.
