Walburga “Wally” Nold was born October 1, 1925, in Hague, ND to Joseph and Philomena (Klein) Kiefer.  She lived in a sod house as a child and attended country school through the 7thgrade.

Wally was united in marriage to Louis Nold on October 14, 1947, at St. Mary’s Church in Hague.  The couple lived with Wally’s sister, Magdalena Fischer, in Edgeley, ND for the first year of their marriage.  They moved to Aberdeen, SD in 1948 after their first daughter, Shirley, was born.  Wally was a stay-at-home mom until 1967, when she began working for Northern State University Food Service Greyhound Inc.  Wally was employed there for 33 years, feeding all the college kids, whom she loved to joke and laugh with.  Everyone at NSU loved “Wally, the salad bar lady.”  Following her retirement from NSU, Wally worked for four years as a cook for Father Gregory Tschakert at St. Mary’s Rectory.   Wally and Louis shared over 48 years of marriage before he passed away on November 28, 1995.  Wally moved to Nano Nagle Assisted Living in August 2015, where she resided until the Lord took her home to Heaven.

Wally was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen and was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.  She attended daily mass faithfully and enjoyed volunteering for masses at Manor Care and Aberdeen Living Center, where her father and oldest brother, Jacob, resided prior to their passing.  She joked that “she had to go to Mass every day because she had so much family to pray for.”

Wally especially loved the soup gatherings with her entire family: kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; gathering every Sunday for a shared lunch. She was known for her delicious salads and hors d’oeuvres.  Wally also proudly crocheted many afghans, blankets, scarves and hats for family, friends, and to be donated to the church.

Blessed to have shared Wally’s life are her five children:  Shirley (Robert) Tenold of Zimmerman, MN, Lorraine “Lori” (Gary) Liedle of Aberdeen, Tammy (Roger) Ness of New Prague, MN, Ronnie (Jean) Nold of Aberdeen, and Rodney (Elaine) Nold of Chanhassen, MN; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her sisters:  Tillie Moch of Edgeley, ND and Theresa Moch of Arvada, CO.

Wally was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her parents, Joseph and Philomena; three sisters:  Julia, Philomena “Phyllis” and Magdalena “Maggie”; four brothers:  Joseph, Jacob, Ignatius, and Frank; and an infant great-granddaughter, Ambreja Tenold.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren:  Curt Tenold, Chuck Tenold, Chris Tenold, Damian Nold, Mike Nold and Joe Nold.
