Viola Marie Weber was born August 30th, 1920, to Nicholas and Catherine (Kline) Weber in New Rockford, North Dakota. She attended Aberdeen Central High School and graduated in 1939.
One day a knock at the door led to Vi meeting Marvin, his car had broken down and he needed to use the phone. They were married on May 29th, 1943. In their 72 years of marriage, they loved to travel. They took several cruises, visited Hawaii, many family vacations, and later years were spent with friends and family wintering in Texas.
Vi worked at JC Penny’s and was part owner of Dolly’s Drapery with her sister Dolly. She was past President of the St. Mary’s Alter Society and St. Mary’s Band #14.
Vi and Marvin, had a group of long-time friends, more like family, and they would often go dancing and play cards into the evening.
Vi was an avid bridge player and belonged to several clubs. Marvin drove her in on several snowy days – under no circumstances would she call in for a sub. Vi also had a pretty good poker face. She won quite a few Texas Hold’em games on super bowl Sundays.
In her free time – Vi created some wonderful yarn and canvas art and loved to read. She had recently gotten into puzzles and other arts and crafts during her time at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
Most of all Vi loved her family – she and Marvin lived next door to Larry and Joan. This allowed her to be part of her grandchildren’s lives. She was a second mom, chauffeuring for after-school events and activities. She extended this tradition with her great-granddaughters. Cheering them on whenever she could.
Blessed to have shared Viola’s life are her son, Larry (Joan) Lorenzen of Aberdeen, SD; two granddaughters, Lori (Casey) Moelter and Leann (Gene) Fredrickson; and three great-granddaughters: Morgan Moelter, Madison Moelter, and Falynn Fredrickson.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; infant daughter, Linda in 1954; four brothers; and two sisters.
She will be placed to rest next to Marvin and Linda at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
