Mass of Christian burial for Vernon J. Lipp, 83, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Mark Lichter as celebrant. Burial, with military rites, will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at church on Tuesday. Vernon's family requests casual dress for the service.
Vernon passed away surrounded by his family Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Vernon J. Lipp was born May 9, 1932, to Joseph and Helen (Materie) Lipp in Timber Lake, SD. In 1933, the family moved to a farm near Hague, ND. Vernon was raised and attended rural school in that area until 1950, when his family relocated to Wetonka, SD. Vernon entered the United States Army in 1952, serving his country during the Korean War, before receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1954. Vernon was united in marriage to Lillian Nold on September 1, 1956, in Aberdeen, SD. The couple made Aberdeen their home, where Vernon began his career as an electrician in 1957, working for Saylor Electric, Don Harry and Feikert Electric and Kelly Electric before retiring in 1994. He continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of his death.
Vernon was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also a 46-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Aberdeen. Vernon was a "jack of all trades" and a handyman. He was always available to help any family members and friends with their projects. He loved working on projects around his pride and joy his three story home and garages and all his children's homes. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, dancing and playing pinochle with his brothers.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 59 years, Lillian Lipp of Aberdeen; four sons: Rick Lipp, Dale Lipp, Kevin Lipp and Allen Lipp, all of Aberdeen; two grandchildren: Cherie Lipp of Tomah, WI and Bailey Lipp of Yankton, SD; one great-granddaughter, Lilly; five brothers: Daniel (Dorothy) Lipp, Duane (Mary) Lipp, Leonard (Marie) Lipp and Mike (Linda) Lipp, all of Aberdeen and Joseph Lipp of Sioux Falls, SD; and three sisters: Diane (David) Tunge of Yankton, SD, Mary (Ambrose) Mitzel of Aberdeen, and Annella Termondt of Rockford, IL. Vernon was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and one sister, Alma Nold.
Pallbearers will be Keith Nold, Aaron Mitzel, Leon Lipp, Jordan Lipp, Nick Lipp and Don Lipp. Offertory gifts will be presented by Cherie Lipp and Bailey Lipp and the lector Danette Saur.
